"Electronic dance music with heavy bass, unknown vocalists and mixed by club disc jockeys regularly tops pop charts in Europe but in America such music has been an underground genre with little mainstream success.

But French DJ David Guetta predicts that will change, saying U.S. hip-hop and pop stars featured on his new album "One Love", which was released this week, so embraced the genre that they could boost its mainstream appeal in the United States."

I actually finished a 10 page paper just last week about how electronic music is not getting the recognition it deserves and that many Americans call it "techno", failing to see what's more to the genre.
This article is probably exactly what I wanted to hear and it feels like in a way, someone heard me Smiley
That's because my paper also talks about electronic music being "disguised" in U.S. and both has other common points.
I also talked about what raves are (or were) and how they essentially ended because of new laws. This article give me hope at the end when European music festivals are mentioned. Perhaps we will bring raves back to mainstream  Rock

(No Im not high I am just very excited to hear this)

I feel that music is contanstly crossing over. If you listen to any mainstream hip-hop or R&B song you can hear it has some kind of dance/electronic element. I never really noticed that Dance/Electronic music doesn't top the charts here as much but I do notice when songs that blend hip-hop beats over an electronic bass tend to get more hits.

Just think of Lady Gaga as was mentioned in the article; She has a musical style that mixes, Dance, Pop and Rock all in one.

Lol and it's funny when people say that dance music or techno music is gay BUT is that same techno music sample that is in your favorite hip-hop or R&B song. More and more producers and music artist are most definitely experimenting with the electronic sound and they should.

Even though, I don't know if we'd ever have a full blown dance song make number one on the charts, it would have to have a blend of other genres I guess...  Roll Eyes Tongue

It's funny because everything I think of Lady Gaga now all I remember is how when i first heard the "just dance" song I knew it was gonna be a hit. and it's like you said a lot of new mainstream artists are blending in some house and dance now. look at pitbull he has sampled sooo many famous house songs lately that its ridiculous, and people love it. I have sat down with people and showed them the original tunes and they cant believe it.

This transformation has been taking place for some time now. I can't speak for my whole beloved United States, but as for Chicago and it's outlying areas, Electric music has been making a huge come back for a while now. Electric sounds have been hitting our clubs drastically more for the past few years. I have been mixing a form of this transformation of Urban into Electronic music for years now called Street Style. Believe it or not, my family and close friends are witnesses, that is all we hear now in the Chi is Urban being remixed into Electronic. I, for one, am happy with this transformation...bout time. We have some great artists and remixers here blowing this place up with this new style. A few are LMFAO, Pitbull, BEP, Jump Smokers, Mixin Marc, Tony Arzadon...these are just a very FEW of the many talented people helping with this transformation.

The article states, "Guetta knows what he's doing here. Bring America to the club? Nah. He'll bring the club to America." But I have a question for all those that this Electronic beat is taking over America...could it be that the Urban sounds of the USA is taking over the Electronic sounds of the rest of the world? Just think about it...Urban took over the early to mid 80's with Gansta Rap and main stream Hip Hop, Rap and R&B. In the early to mid 2000s it took over with Hip Pop, a mixture of Pop and Rap. Now could it be growing into Electronic music...? We had something like that happen before with limited success with Hip House in the late 80's to early 90's.
Hmmm something to think about...but now that it is here, I will have to try and come up with a different style since everyone is slowly progressing to the new "Urbanlectronic" (Copy written by DJ MaddSound and Maddsound Productions)  Grin
