I've just downloaded VDJ and well... dunno where or how to start!

Well let me be the first to say WELCOME to DJing, I'm sure that given lots of practice (and patience) you'll be addicted to this wonderful sport before too long 

Wow, where to begin.  Have you thought much about what sort of music you want to mix? This could very well be a variety of genres and dance music styles, or perhaps you've already chosen a genre?

To begin, grab a whole bunch of tracks and start playing then in VDJ to get the feel of the software and how it interacts and sounds.

I could write paragraphs on DJ styles and techniques, but really it's already been done before!!
